Jin Shin Do Bodymind Acupressure brings together Chinese Medicine
with present-day concepts of feeling/thinking patterns that
are not physically, mentally or emotionally vitalizing or
life-enhancing and have become anchored in the body or mind.
This form of bodywork uses gentle, firm, consistent finger
pressure while holding two acupoints concurrently. It also
focuses on the awareness of the recipient, using verbal bodymind
awareness techniques so that the client participates in the
release process through breathing, focusing and visualization.
This enhances the release process and engages cognitive resources
which can facilitate lasting change.
Jin Shin Do assists a person
to connect with what is in one’s head to what to one’s own
true feelings stored in the body. Gently forging this bridge
brings peace, self-understanding, self-compassion, forgiveness
and reveals wisdom that is within a person.
What does Jin Shin
Do Bodymind Acupressure offer?
Jin Shin Do offers a practical
way of dealing with physical and emotional stress and is a
terrific complement for those considering or involved in counseling.
It also offers relief and dissolution of physical pain and
gentle release of pent-up emotion. It specifically releases
mental and physical stresses and body-held tensions and induces
a pleasurable state of peace. Breathwork and visualization
are often used within Jin Shin Do Bodymind Acupressure and
can be used as tools (along with self-acupressure points given)
to take home for personal use of self-maintenance.
Who can receive it?
Jin Shin Do is a safe, comfortable
method which has been used in many diverse settings. People
in counseling use it as well as those who use it as a follow-up
with counseling. Special populations including animals have
received and benefited from this. Practitioners have worked
in special programs in schools, hospitals, birthing centers,
Veterans centers, senior centers, hospices, homes and equestrian
stables.
The method uses mainly finger
pressure and has few contraindications. Jin Shin Do can be
safely used with people experiencing cancer, AIDS, and surgery
and people managing anxiety and depression.
How long is a session
and what does the client wear?
The first session is typically
90 minutes in length. During this time a health history questionnaire
is reviewed together and a health assessment is done using
Chinese Medicine methods such as:
- pulse assessment
-assessment of quality of
skin tone, posture, eyes, voice, hair growth, tongue color.
-palpation of acupressure/
acupuncture points and reflex areas.
A bodywork session follows
this, with the client wearing loose fitting clothing. Follow-up
sessions are typically 70 minutes long.
