Carl and Elise Corry, Owners/Instructors
Elise and Carl Corry founded the Pilates Fitness Studio in 2000. Establishing this thriving studio was
the culmination of over 25 years and 10,000 hours of
teaching and training in Joseph Pilates’ Method of
Body Conditioning. Their many years of training were
overseen by the Midwest’s esteemed Pilates
teacher-trainer, Juanita Lopez. In 1999, Carl and
Elise were certified by the world renowned Romana
Kryzanowska from Romana’s Pilates. Over the past 5
years, Carl and Elise have trained 3 instructors
certified by Romana’s Pilates.
Elise was chosen at age 12 by George Balanchine to
attend his prestigious School of American Ballet in
New York City. When she graduated at 16 she was
immediately taken into the New York City Ballet where
she danced corps, solo, and principal roles for 10
years before going to Europe to dance with Rudolf
Nureyev. When she returned in the early 80’s, Elise
studied Pilates intensely with Judy Kovan and Patrick
Strong to compliment her dancing. Upon receiving her
Pilates certification in 1999, Elise has been training
clients on the authentic Pliates Method. She has
worked with clients of all capabilities, and has
guided the training of 3 apprentices. Elise enjoys
refining clients’ techniques for the method helping
clients get the most out of their Pilates practice.
Carl enjoyed a 20 year career with the Joffrey Ballet
in New York City rising from scholarship student to
assistant Ballet Master between 1975 and 1995. Carl
danced many of the most notable roles in the Joffrey
repertory and was often acclaimed by Clive Barnes and
Anna Kisselgoff of the New York Times. After more than
5000 performances with the Joffrey Balley, Carl became
Ballet Master and resident choreographer for the St.
Louis Ballet from 1995 to 1997. Carl continues to be a
guest artist, guest teacher, and choreographer to
ballet companies and universities across the United States.
