Danielle Koby
Danielle Koby, Ph.D. is a Clinical Health Psychologist who enjoys partnering with adults to improve their health, happiness and quality of life. Dr. Koby specializes in working with individuals who face a combination of physical and emotional health challenges, often in the context of chronic illness or following a traumatic experience. She is an expert in recognizing and treating the physical symptoms of anxiety and depression such as sleep disruption, fatigue, low energy, changes in appetite and weight, headaches, stomach upset, muscle tension and pain. Dr. Koby has nearly a decade of experience helping individuals to reduce the emotional pain of depression and anxiety with a warm, empathic approach.
Throughout her career and training Dr. Koby has worked extensively in hospitals and medical settings, in the areas of obesity, weight management and bariatric surgery, cancer care, primary care and sleep medicine. Most recently she has specialized in supporting patients and families with epilepsy, movement disorders and other neurological concerns. Dr. Koby is also experienced and knowledgeable in supporting patients with gastrointestinal (GI) and autoimmune disorders. She is well-connected in the medical community and makes a strong effort to help patients find appropriate treatment providers, participate in shared decision-making, and improve doctor-patient communication.
Dr. Koby practices from a supportive and cognitive-behavioral framework, helping patients to make connections between their current functioning and their past experiences. This often includes setting goals, identifying priorities and beginning to take small steps at a pace that is comfortable. She is passionate about supporting and empowering patients through education, problem solving, stress management and strengthening healthy relationships and habits. As a Health Psychologist Dr. Koby is extremely knowledgeable in the areas of nutrition, exercise, adjustment to illness and physical symptom management. She is also experienced in relaxation training and mindfulness and often incorporates these practices into her therapeutic work.
Dr. Koby earned her doctoral degree at the University of Connecticut including an internship in Health Psychology at Rush University Medical Center. She then completed a two-year postdoctoral fellowship in Medical Psychology at Mayo Clinic. Early in her career Dr. Koby worked at the Miriam and Rhode Island Hospitals in the Division of Behavioral Medicine and was an assistant professor of Psychiatry at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Before transitioning to private practice she worked at the Institute of Living and Hartford Hospital’s Neuroscience Center, and in the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center. She was an assistant professor of Neurology at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine and served on the Advisory Board of the Epilepsy Foundation of Connecticut. She enjoys teaching, learning, research and collaborating with other providers.
